Gita has been training yoga teachers since the early 1960’s - first in an apprenticeship role, and later in a formalised Teacher Training Course - the GITA GOLD DIPLOMA TEACHER TRAINING COURSE. In the early years of Yoga in Australia almost all yoga teachers were Gita trained, unless they had come from overseas, hence Gita training is found in the history of many Australian yoga teachers.

Our next intake for the Gita Gold Diploma Teacher Training Course will be in early 2010.

STANDARDS AND ACCREDITATION

Our Gita International Gold Diploma Teacher Training Course is fully recognised by the Yoga Teachers’ Association of Australia, our national association. The Course accrues over 900 hours of input, teaching practice and supervised experience in addition to personal classes- one of the most demanding and thorough courses in the world.

Our teachers are confident and very competent to teach in a wide variety of situations, from Corporate to Community centres, large groups or 1:1 private lessons.  They will meet the needs of the students in any given situation and will impart a sense of positivity wherever they go.

Our 2006-2007 course graduated in September 2007 and our current group for 2008-2009 has just started.

Who does it?

Anyone wishing to grow and fulfill their true potential. Age or fitness level is not a barrier, as at Gita we believe we all teach by what we are. Teacher Training helps us to be better at being more fully ourselves, and thus make a more worthy contribution to the world.

Why?

Many people want to make a difference in the world. Teaching yoga gives you some very effective tools to help others. Some people train with us purely for personal development - and that, too, will make the world a better place!

What Are The Benefits?

Immeasurable!
Better health and well-being.
A sense of purpose.
Confidence to live and speak your truth.
A multitude of new friends for life.
A sense of fulfilment, as you follow your Soul’s path.
A very portable skill which allows you to make a contribution wherever you are in the world.

What's Involved?

Everything! This Course will turn your life upside down as you learn to live more fully and effectively. A 16 month, part time Course, encompassing a residential weekend to start, and both written and practical exams to complete before Graduation. It will require 2-3 evenings per week and approximately 29 weekends over the 16 months. Not for the faint hearted!

Course Outline

At Gita we believe we teach what we are - positive or otherwise! The entire focus of the Course is personal development through understanding ourselves as “Spiritual Beings Having a Human Experience”. That means learning all about everything - lots of Hatha Yoga, Anatomy, Physiology, Diagnostic Techniques, Postures, Diet, Philosophy, History, Energy, Psychology, and the myriad of other facets that make up the Human condition. You will also learn to become an excellent Yoga teacher!

What to expect

There is a rigourous selection process for our Gita Course. You will have at least two interviews in order to ascertain your motives and intent, as well as your suitability. As we will be working together closely throughout the Course, it is important that we feel the direction is right for all concerned. You will then be offered a place in the Course.

Not In Melbourne?

Gita teachers are all over the world!

These teachers want you to have the tremendous growth experience they had. Ideally the training is the traditional, Melbourne based, weekly classes at Gita - but if you are in regional Victoria, distant parts of Australia or in colourful cities in other parts of the world, we open our international program to you. Gita teachers are able to travel to supervise and guide you through our Gita International Gold Diploma Teacher Training Course.

Provided you are Aquarian minded, have a spirit of adventure and are willing to travel if the opportunity arises, we will tailor the training program to suit your circumstances. Our approach is radical because it is personal - ‘one size’ definitely does not ‘fit all’ as we know. If you are willing to meet up with our Teachers who are travelling and can work with DVDs and e-mail at home, then we would welcome the opportunity to personally tailor a program for you.  In a world becoming more and more impersonal, we offer a personalised training program to fit your specific circumstances.

It is an innovative and enriching experience for all involved.

If you are looking for a Yoga Training Course which creates SOUL GROWTH - TRANSFORMATION - SELF RESPONSIBILITY - INDEPENDENCE - CONFIDENCE and DEEP LASTING FRIENDSHIPS then call us! 61 3 9416 3272

20 Reasons Why The Gita Course is Successful

  1. We recognise everyone as a soul - not just a personality.
  2. There is a focussed intent to ‘build in achievement and build out failure’.
  3. There is an amazingly strong network of Co-ordinators and Teachers who want each teacher in training to succeed.
  4. An understanding that each person is an individual - thus each begins at a different point and should therefore reach a different finishing point.
  5. An acknowledgement that everyone has unrealised potential.
  6. There is an expectation of co-operation, self responsibility and a pursuit of self discipline.
  7. The first attempts at teaching are done with love and in the safety of nurturing and achieving environs, thus the first teaching experience is a beautiful one.
  8. The teaching tasks are skilfully graded and keenly supervised, so each person moves from success to the next point of achievement.
  9. All the ‘reports’ and annotations of notes are with respect for the individual and from the angle of support. There is no criticism of anyone at any time.
  10. The TT group is seen as an organism - a living, breathing , totally inter-dependent system, which, like the human body, recognises the responsibility of the bowels as much as it applauds the beauty of the face.
  11. There are no hidden extras sprung on the person at any time. Not in time requests, not in tasks, not in financial aspects.
  12. The dates for all the sessions are known before enrolment. The costs are clearly laid out and do not alter. There are no ‘new books’ or equipment suddenly added to the essentials.
  13. Trust is earned, not demanded. Integrity is experienced, not defined.
  14. No person is allowed to commence unless we are convinced that the person can successfully complete the Course.
  15. Once having started ‘Heaven and Earth' are moved to ensure that each person’s needs are supported and moments of growth observed and recognised. Thus there is no impending failure, there is a ‘course to be run’ and when it is run, it is done.
  16. Examinations are held for a very deliberate purpose - redefining the old idea of ‘failing at the finishing line’. The exams, both written and practical, are to provide for each person the indisputable evidence of their knowledge base and ability to teach under the most challenging of circumstances - and achieve!
  17. The Course is highly structured in content, the Curriculum is visible to all and, as such, provides maximum scope for individual growth and group cohesion.
  18. The credo of the Gita TT Course is ‘Live with understanding, Teach by example’
  19. The uniqueness of Gita as an institution with a unifying philosophy is apparent in all that is done. The Principals, Teachers, Co-ordinators, and Members of the Examining Panel choose ‘to so live our lives that we create the conditions in which souls may grow’.
  20. The Gita Teacher Training Course is seen correctly as more than a TT Training Course - it is a personal growth Course. Many people will teach formally by giving classes, but all will teach, as do we all, by what we are and do. Thus this Course is a training in life, for life.

Testimonials

TT Testimonials 2006 - 2007

On a practical level, TT refined my ability to organise and prioritise my time. There are many lessons that have become clearer to me throughout this course. I understand that every challenge represents an opportunity to grow and that in letting go of expectations, I am free to experience life in myriad ways. I used to think I had to tick certain boxes to make life worthwhile. Now I know that to be the best you can be is purpose enough, and that to serve others is a privilege we earn along the path toward and beyond self-mastery.

Lisa Mitchell

I started my TT/yoga journey in an older less flexible body than the average TT and it was quite a challenge physically. However, from having a not very flexible body to start with, and a `break’ along the way, I climbed the mountain to become more flexible, have more energy and a greater sense of who I am and where I need to be headed on my ever- growing soul’s journey.

Patricia Turner

Apart from the delight I feel that I can now guide a yoga class and
share my passion with others who may experience a similar level of
benefit from yoga as I have, I also marvel at what my once locked and
toxic body can now achieve. Emotionally, I have surprised myself as lots of old stressors and hang-ups have drifted away and no longer take my attention - one of the many benefits of lots of yoga practice. I feel a deeper sense of peace and real joy at having a skill that I can share with others.

Susannah Petris

The course requires a great deal of commitment, but you are setting yourself up for life, so 16 months isn't all that long in the grand scheme of things!! I learnt so much more than how to be a yoga teacher and I'll be forever grateful for that. This course will change your life for the absolute better!

Claire Lefebvre

TT has been such a wonderful growth opportunity, one that I could not have accurately predicted when I signed up .... It has been challenging, no doubt about it but through this has come such transformation, understanding, love and acceptance which I doubt I could have gained elsewhere in such a short period of time.  Im truly grateful for having done TT, have made many wonderful friends who I know I will stay in contact with and I feel empowered to go out and be all that I can be.  I could not recommend TT highly enough to those who are looking for something more in their lives.

Georgia Jans

They say that the universe moves in mysterious ways, well I think my story is a true testament to that. From the inception in Bali, right through to the present, it has been a bumpy ride to say the least, but a pleasurable one at that. In brief, I feel awake, balanced and alive and extremely fortunate that the universe has awarded me this joyful opportunity. I have met some incredible people along the way. I look forward with quiet excitement to the next phase of this wonderful journey.

Angele Plimley (from UK)

Teacher training has helped me become more disciplined and self-responsible.

Leigh Hopkinson

Teacher training at Gita International is a truly enriching course on all levels – emotionally, mentally, physically & spiritually.  There are, throughout the course, triumphs and tribulations, lots of laughter and many tears!  However, out of some of our darkess hours, comes the most profound growth & lightness and to be able to achieve this with unwavering support, non judgement and the love that is offered is truly an amazing experience!  The course provides you the tool kit required to live life more fully, positively & consciously – as Yoga is for life- not just for Christmas!!

Cherie Rigby

After 55 years, TT has helped me realize that it is ok to be me.
